diving...

It's official... we are addicted to diving. We just couldn't go to the other side of the world without one last trip to the Red Sea.

Nic and Graham on the 'Thistlegorm' WWII Wreck

We didn't see any sharks or manta rays (again) but we had some amazing trips to the local dive sites in Sharm El Sheikh, further afield in Ras Mohamed and Tiran and two fantastic dives on the wreck of the Thistlegorm (despite the 04:00 start! Yikes!). A nice sunrise on the way though...

The day after we stopped diving (credit cards were groaning) the group we would have been with dived with 9 hammer head sharks at the back of Jackson Reef... The moral of this story? Never, EVER, miss a day's diving if you can possibly help it!!! Especially in an amazing place like the Red Sea!

Graham discovered a great new use for the underwater camera. Unfortunately the great revelation was on the last dive, but we hope for some more dives soon to try it out. Click here to see what it was...

...yes it's the video function! This is a short clip of Nic in the 2nd world war wreck of the Thistlegorm - notice that our guide, Neil, is pointing out racks of rifles in the wreck to Nic.

The wreck was amazing and quite surreal. Bleary eyed we left the marina at 5am for the 4 hour trip out to the wreck. There's no part of the wreck above the surface of the water after Jacques Cousteau pulled the mast down so no-one else could find it! You need GPS to locate it.... or just head to the gaggle of other boats bobbing around on the surface!

We did two dives going inside the wreck on both, swimming around the holds full of motorbikes, trucks and ammunition and also going through the captains cabin! The only trouble was that it was quite busy so we spent half the time avoiding the annoying italian divers!!

Anyway, we're positively hooked. Planning to go to the big dive show in October to build our stock of diving gear. We're planning to get computers, fins and maybe regulators and BC's (Buoyancy Compensator's) - Nic's already got her eye on a particularly fetching 'female' model. Vanity, vanity....

Here's some pics from our diving trips so far, including this latest one to Egypt...
